Traverse City Tourism

Last year, Budget Travel named Traverse City one of the 11 “Coolest Winter Places in America” and Livability.com added Traverse City to its list of “America’s 10 Hottest Cold Cities” – the nation’s best winter vacation destinations. They said Traverse City had “all the ingredients for a great winter vacation – a quaint downtown with beautiful views of Lake Michigan, microbreweries, restaurants, shops, performance venues and lots of snow.”

When it comes to skiing, tubing and snowboarding, the region’s premiere full-service winter destination is undoubtedly Shanty Creek Resorts, a 4,500-acre recreational complex in the beautiful Chain of Lakes region about 30 miles northeast of Traverse City. Ski Magazine rated Shanty Creek the Midwest’s number-one destination in value, dining, lodging, weather and après ski activities. Other skiers have discovered the fun of staying closer to town, taking advantage of low lodging rates and a broad choice of shopping, dining and entertainment options while skiing at Traverse City’s two day ski areas, Mt. Holiday and Hickory Hills.

But the region is probably best known for the quality of its winter “silent sports” -- snowshoe hiking and cross-country skiing -- thanks to its vast acreage of forest and parkland. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has eight marked trails, some leading up to panoramic overlooks high above the lake. Other marked trail systems include the Lost Lake Pathway near Interlochen, the 3,500-acre Sand Lakes Quiet Area near Williamsburg and the Vasa Pathway, one of the finest cross-country ski trails in the nation. Within the city, the 300-acre Grand Traverse Commons features superb skiing and snowshoeing in park-like grounds among century-old, European-style buildings and stands of old-growth pines.

Snowmobilers tend to head south and east of town, where more than 200 miles of the country’s finest and most diverse snowmobiling wait for them in the enchanted Boardman and Jordan river valleys. There’s something for every taste – whether it’s twisting and turning through dense hardwood forests, touring over hills, bridges, and waterways, or racing across wide-open spaces with plenty of room to enjoy the fresh white powder. Best of all, both trail systems are close to Traverse City’s hotels, resorts and restaurants – an important consideration at the end of a long day of sledding.

The Boardman Valley Trail, just minutes from downtown, is an 81-mile trail system in the Pere Marquette State Forest, where sightings of turkeys, eagles, deer and other wildlife are commonplace. The Boardman is also linked to several other regional trail systems, offering even more opportunities for extended distance riding. The Jordan Valley Trail, about a half-hour to the northeast, is a network featuring over 130 miles of spectacular trails not far from Shanty Creek and the picturesque village of Bellaire.

Shanty Creek Ski Resort, Bellaire, MI

Schuss Mountain has long defined skiing in Michigan. So it’s no surprise Shanty Creek was rated “Best Downhill Terrain in the Midwest” by OnTheSnow.com’s visitors.

Now with 53 runs on its two mountains and featuring 4 terrain parks, a 300′ half pipe, more than 175″ of snow, and a 450′ vertical drop, Shanty Creek is where terrain meets tradition.

Combine great terrain with special ski events, discount lift ticket pricing, and season passes for all ages, Shanty Creek makes it easy to schuss all winter long.

Alpine: From beginner to experienced skiers and boarders, Shanty Creek has something for everyone. Schuss Mountain has earned its reputation as the “Best Downhill Terrain in the Midwest.” And with four terrain parks, a half pipe, more glade runs, and the best groomed snow, SCR offers the best lift ticket value in Michigan.

Terrain Parks: With four terrain parks and a half pipe, Shanty Creek leads the way for freeriders and twin tip skiing alike. Boasting a variety of ever-changing rails, boxes and tabletops, our parks are groomed daily and maintained by our trained and knowledgeable staff.

Jib smaller jumps and rails in the beginner’s area, get sick on the features of Purple Daze at Schuss Mountain, catch air at Summit, and grab and twist your way down the pipe.

Tubing: Tubing is a speedy downhill thrill for your whole crew on Schuss Mountain’s north face. Located in Cedar River Village, SCR’s five-lane tubing park is fun for kids, families, groups and non-athletes.

Tickets are limited each hour; sessions begin at the top of the hour and may be purchased at the Summit Village Snowsports Center, Schuss Snowsports Center, Nordic Center or the Cedar River Tubing Park Window.

Please note: All children under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a release of liability form.

Cross Country: Shanty Creek prides itself on its pristine Nordic ski trails that wind through snow-blanketed northern Michigan hardwoods and pines.
It’s time for a Woodpecker Pizza Party at Holland’s DeGraaf Nature Center on Saturday, November 22nd at 2 p.m. This program will begin with a brief overview of the kinds of woodpeckers we have in our area. Woodpeckers love suet or animal fats, mixed with seeds and other ingredients. At this Woodpecker Pizza Party participants will create a “crust” of suet and then put on toppings made of a variety of tasty treats for woodpeckers. When done, it will be ready to cut a slice to set outside for a woodpecker feast. Fee: $5 per pizza. Please call 616-355-1057 to register.

The DeGraaf Nature Center is located at 600 Graafschap Road in Holland. The historic, Coopersville & Marne Railway is continuing its 25th year of providing family-friendly fun with the annual running of The Santa Train. Uniformed Conductors and Trainmen will assist you during your ninety-minute journey. The clickity-clack of the iron wheels and the sound of the locomotive horn at each road crossing will add to the special feeling. A blanket of snow in the passing woods and farmer’s fields completes the experience. Christmas carols are sung along the way.

The jolly old elf has a special seat in each of the decorated, vintage train cars. Some cars are almost 100 years old. Santa’s Elves will escort the little ones to sit with Santa. All children, even the shy ones, will get a special gift right from Santa’s big red bag. To put a figurative bow on this Christmas “enterTRAINment” package, the Story Telling Princess will read “The Polar Express”, which was written by Grand Rapids native, Chris Van Allsburg.

The 250 seat, heated train leaves the station in historic, downtown Coopersville every Saturday and Sunday from Thanksgiving until Christmas. Each passenger car has a restroom. Your light snacks and cameras may be taken aboard. Snow or no, we go!

Times for the departures are: Saturday, November 29 at 11 am & 1:30 pm. On all other Saturdays, the departure times are 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. All Sunday departures are at 1 pm and 3 pm. Saturday dates are Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, & 20. Sunday dates are Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14 & 21.

Ticket prices are: Adults, $15.50, Seniors (60+), $14. 50 and Children (2-12), $13.50, Children under 2 years old are free. Advance tickets: 616-997-7000, Ext. 3 or www.MItrain.net. Some tickets may be available at the train station on the days of departures. But, the train does sell out on occasion, so reservations are recommended. The Conductor begins the boarding procedures at twenty minutes prior to departure times.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04307381802921818967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725362900373174824.post-40955510456997738412014-11-07T15:02:00.000-05:002014-11-07T15:02:03.748-05:00West Michigan Weekend Round-Up: November 7th, 8th, & 9thCatch a Classical Coffee Concert with the Grand Rapids Symphony, take the kids on an Adventure in Balance at the Grand Rapids Children's Museum, or take a class on Chinese Painting at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts this weekend!

There was a time when Traverse City on Michigan's northwest coast slowed almost to a stop in wintertime. Not anymore.

These days, Traverse City fairly bustles with winter shoppers and merrymakers. Weary of looking at the same merchandise in the same Big Box stores, visitors are increasingly choosing to do their holiday adventuring in this community's charming boutiques, shops and galleries.

Christmas preparations in Traverse City start in autumn, when local churches, clubs and artist’s cooperatives begin staging the holiday arts and crafts fairs for which the region is justly famous. By December, it’s hard to find a weekend without some event that brings crowds of shoppers into downtown Traverse City. The town’s shopping season starts officially on Dec. 5 with a big outdoor extravaganza that involves carol-singing, the lighting of the community Christmas tree, and the arrival of Santa Claus on a bright red antique fire engine.

Nearby, a fascinating holiday tradition takes place each Dec. 13 in the Village at Grand Traverse Commons, a unique retail/residential district on the site of Traverse City’s former mental asylum. Serenaded by an ensemble of flutes, a young girl in a long white robe and a crown of lighted candles, wanders the grounds delivering warm sweet rolls to holiday shoppers. It’s all part of the village’s Santa Lucia Day, which also includes refreshments, special prices and free horse-drawn carriage rides -- a uniquely picturesque experience of Christmas past.

Just as popular with visitors are the late-night shopping sprees held in Traverse City’s downtown: a Dec. 11 Ladies Night, followed by a Dec. 18 Men's Night, all featuring entertainment, food and drink specials in addition to the usual in-store sales.

The same lovingly organized holiday shopping activities are organized in nearby villages like Suttons Bay, which holds a three-day Holiday Festival Dec. 5-7 that includes a nighttime stroll down luminaria-lined streets with refreshments, hors d'oeuvres, local wines, restaurant specials and over 50 decorated trees, as well as a tree-lighting and carol sing. Nearby Leland has a festival of its own -- the Holiday Wonderland -- on Dec. 13.

Exciting as the shopping may be, it’s only part of this charming area’s holiday celebrations. Thanks to a growing population and a thriving winter recreation industry, many of the area’s traditional holiday observances are still going strong – and a few more have even been added in recent years.

December is also a splendid time to enjoy some of Traverse City’s fabled cuisine. Thanks to its award-winning wines and talented local chefs, the community now enjoys an international reputation as a place of surprisingly sophisticated food and drink. And what could go better with all this culinary bounty than a fine wine? Traverse City’s vineyards are known for their crisp, intensely flavorful wines, and the local beer (15 microbreweries and counting!) is also taking prizes on every side.

Traverse City is also one of America’s most charming “art towns,” with dozens of galleries, studios and museums, two symphony orchestras, two theatre companies and a vibrant club scene. And with the world-famous Interlochen Center for the Arts just down the road, there’s music, dance and drama from some of the world’s most talented performers.

In fact, every winter students and staff at Interlochen put on a holiday ballet special for the community. This year’s Dec. 11-13 presentation is a traditional favorite – Tschaikovsky’s beloved Sleeping Beauty -- and on Dec. 18, the Academy Band and Choir presents its annual “Sounds of the Season” concert.

Each year, residents of the village of Northport, near the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula, decorate the Grand Traverse Lighthouse for Christmas as it was celebrated by the Coast Guard families who lived there in the early 20th century. The annual "Christmas at the Lighthouse" celebration is held this year on Dec. 6-7, and includes refreshments and entertainment by local musicians. On Dec. 14, the village has its own annual Christmas Concert, one of the most treasured in the area.

On Dec. 6, Traverse City’s ornate 19th century Opera House features the retro quintet Five By Design in “Radio Holly Days,” a revue of classic Christmas favorites from the Golden Age of radio, built around a live radio drama -- complete with sound effects.

On the weekend of Dec. 13-14 the Traverse Symphony Orchestra presents its hugely popular “Home for the Holidays” concert at Lars Hockstad Auditorium, with guest conductor Robin Fountain leading the Grand Traverse Chorale and Children’s Choir -- as well as the audience -- in a program of treasured Christmas classics, carols, medleys and holiday favorites.

A different sort of musical event is held Dec. 19 at the Left Foot Charley Winery in Traverse City. It’s “Unsilent Night,” a free “participatory sound sculpture” in which attendees participate by bringing their own boom boxes, laptops, iPhones, iPads and other portable music devices and create a “roving swarm” of sounds as they wander the grounds.

New Year’s Eve isn’t forgotten here, either. For the past five years, hundreds of people have gathered for the annual “CherryT Ball Drop”, a three-hour “street party for charity” that culminates with the lowering of a large illuminated cherry over downtown Traverse City. It’s a family-friendly event where attendees pay their admission by bringing donated items for local food banks.

To learn more about other winter attractions and events in the Traverse City area – and for a complete listing of lodging and dining options – contact Traverse City Tourism at 1-800-TRAVERSE or on line at www.TraverseCity.comAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04307381802921818967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725362900373174824.post-77039413554605467062014-11-06T11:30:00.001-05:002014-11-06T11:30:35.339-05:00WIN A SHARE OF $125,000 IN CASH AND PRIZES AT FOUR WINDS CASINOS

The Korean hanbok is an authentic dress worn during important celebrations, including Seollal or Korean New Year, which is among the most significant Korean traditional holidays and is typically spent with family. Chinese New Year is a time for families to celebrate together with a reunion meal and to participate in the Lantern Festival. Families traditionally also thoroughly clean their homes to symbolically sweep out the past year’s bad fortune and make way for luck in the new year. Similarly, during Tet Nguyen Dan the Vietnamese celebrate the New Year by preparing special meals, cleaning their homes and honoring their ancestors.

A new addition this year is a vibrant display from Ghana, home to Grand Rapids’ African Sister City, the Ga District. Authentic, brilliantly woven kente and printed adinkra, handmade cloths mark the symbolic significance of the Ghanaian people’s colorful history, customs and religion.

The much-loved Railway Garden meanders through four lush indoor garden spaces, bringing together colorful plantings with storybook scenes. The unique horticultural artistry complements the model trolleys, trains and handcrafted buildings replicating over 30 Grand Rapids landmarks, designed by Paul Busse of Applied Imaging.

Visitors will find familiarity in the Fifth Third Ballpark created with willow light posts and elm bark seating, the Ada Covered Bridge with a cedar roof and willow trusses and the Meyer May House with oak bark siding and red ruscus leaves.

Mainstays of the exhibition include the Germany tree, adorned with handmade glass ornaments and homemade springerle cookies, the England tree—with antique Christmas cards and mistletoe—and the beautiful Eid ul-Fitr display, which celebrates the end of Ramadan.

Meijer Gardens transforms into a botanic wonderland with poinsettias, orchids and amaryllis. Horse-drawn carriage rides through the candle-lit Sculpture Park, the smell of evergreens as visitors enter the building and the sounds of carolers make it a festive place to enjoy the holiday season.

A variety of family-friendly activities are offered throughout the exhibition.

Exhibition Activities

The Grand Rapids Symphony will present a world premiere by Avner Dorman and The Firebird in its entirety at its fourth Richard and Helen DeVos Classical Series concert of the 2014-15 Season. David Lockington will lead two performances on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22 at 8:00 p.m. These performances are generously sponsored by Dematic and the guest artist on these concerts is sponsored by the Edith I. Blodgett Guest Artist Fund. The Symphony will also perform a special matinee on Saturday, November 22 at 3:00 p.m. as part of the DTE Energy Foundation Family Series. All performances will be at DeVos Performance Hall.

Avner Dorman’s “Dialogues of Love,” is a Grand Rapids Symphony commission. Mr. Dorman, an Israeli-born composer, wrote “Dialogues of Love” after reading Dialoghi d’amore by Judah Leon Abravanel, one of the most important philosophical texts of the early 16th century.

“The book is incredibly poetic and deep, spiritual and rational, and aims to answer many of the basic philosophic and scientific questions we all have,” said Dorman. “What is love? What is happiness? Why do objects fall? When was the universe created?”

Inspired by the book, Dorman also used texts about love in many languages from a variety of religious, poetic and philosophical sources to create a work of drama celebrating and investigating the miraculous concept of love. Baritone Lee Poulis, The Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus and Youth Chorus will perform the oratorio alongside the orchestra.

The concert’s second half will present the complete score to The Firebird by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. This is the first time the Grand Rapids Symphony will be performing the piece in its entirety. The Firebird was originally written for the 1910 Paris season of the Ballets Russes company and is based on Russian folk tales. The music tells the story of its hero, Prince Ivan, his antagonist, Kashchei the Immortal, and the magical glowing bird that is both a blessing and a curse to its owner.

Families can experience this compelling musical journey at “The Firebird,” a special, one-hour format concert. The 3:00 p.m. family matinee on Saturday, November 22 will feature music drawn from the full “Love and Life” concert. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., children and families can enjoy free pre-concert activities sponsored by Clark Hill, including an instrument petting zoo.

Children can also explore the story of The Firebird at “Firebird Uncaged,” an event presented by the Grand Rapids Symphony and Blandford Nature Center. “Firebird Uncaged” is on Saturday, November 15, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Blandford Nature Center. At the event, children will use nature to create a mural to be displayed in the DeVos Hall lobby before “The Firebird” family matinee concert on November 22.

The “Firebird Uncaged” event is free with paid admission to Blandford Nature Center. Blandford Nature Center members can attend for free. Attendees at the Blandford Nature Center event will receive a voucher for one free child admission to “The Firebird” family concert (one per household). In turn, attendees at “The Firebird” family matinee concert will receive one free admission to Blandford Nature Center.

Tickets Tickets start at $18 and are available at the Symphony office, weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 300 Ottawa NW, Suite 100, (located across from the Calder Plaza), or by calling 616.454.9451 x 4. (Phone orders will be charged a $2 per ticket service fee, with a $12 maximum.) Tickets are available by phone in the evening and on Saturday by calling 616.885.1241. Tickets are available at the DeVos Place Box Office, weekdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or on the day of the concert beginning two hours prior to the performance. Tickets may also be purchased through Ticketmaster, 800.982.2787, online at GRSymphony.org or in person at Ticketmaster outlets: select D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare Stores and Walmart. Tickets purchased at these locations will include a Ticketmaster service fee. Full-time students of any age are able to purchase tickets for only $5 on the night of the concert by enrolling in the Symphony’s Student Passport program. This is a MySymphony360 eligible concert.

About the Grand Rapids Symphony

Meteor showers happen when Earth passes through the trail of stuff left by comets as they speed through our system,” explained Mary Stewart Adams, Dark Sky Park program director at the Headlands.

“Tempel-Tuttle has an orbital period of 33 years, so it has sped by several times since the close of the Civil War, but because it stays on the same orbital path, it may be that we are racing through many layers of history when we encounter the broken up bits of Tempel-Tuttle, that burn up as they shoot through our atmosphere.”

Additionally, telescopes will be on hand for views of the red planet Mars, now positioned in the thickest region of the Milky Way.

There is no cost to attend the program. Meet at the Guest House. Program takes place rain or shine, no reservations needed. Questions? Call (231) 348-1713 or email darksky@emmetcounty.org

Also in November …
Saturday, Nov. 22, is the Headlands’ “Thanksgiving New Moon Stargaze” event, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Guest House.

“As the asterism of the Summer Triangle begins its slow wane into the West, the mighty Hunter Orion crests the horizon in the East, climbing into the night with his companion dogs and the Taurean Bull, shifting our attention from the warm and lazy days of summer to the brisk and more inwardly wakeful nights of winter. Orion stands triumphant, master of seasons that change in his wake here below,” said Adams.

At Headlands, “we are taking advantage of Orion's charge by gathering at November's New Moon. This will be the last weekend of quiet before the onset of the holiday season, so gather with us and together we will count our lucky stars,” she added.

On this night, guests will explore the many traditions of stories and science connected with the Orion Region of the sky, where the horse-head nebula, the pearly gates, the point of origin for our celestial system and more, all find their home.

Program will be held indoors and out, with seasonally specific light refreshments. Rain or shine, no fee, no reservations required.

The Headlands is a 600-acre park on the Straits of Mackinac, two miles west of downtown Mackinaw City, at 15675 Headlands Road (please note this is a new address as of January 2014). The park is free and open to the public every day. While no camping is allowed, visitors are welcome to stay overnight to observe the dark sky overhead. The Headlands became the 6th International Dark Sky Park in the U.S. and the 9th in the world in May 2011, and each month free programs are held for the public. Visit www.emmetcounty.org for programs and more information, email beckerle@emmetcounty.org, or call (231) 348-1704. The county sends regular email blasts as well with information about night-sky observation opportunities and celestial events; to register, use the contact information above.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04307381802921818967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725362900373174824.post-74875913193616718622014-11-05T14:50:00.000-05:002014-11-05T14:50:43.926-05:00Grand Rapids Public Museum Exhibits Collection of Peter M. Wege’s FirearmsThe Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM) has been collecting for 160 years and prides itself on being the community’s institution of collective memory – where people, their stories and things are gathered together and meaning is shared. The Museum is pleased to announce a recent addition to the collection, the Peter M. Wege Gun Collection, which is now on public display in the “Be Curious” gallery for a limited time. The Wege Gun Collection includes a variety of firearms and knives Mr. Wege collected throughout his lifetime.

From original Civil War pieces, to modern hunting arms, to replicas of some of the most famous weapons in the world, the Wege Gun Collection presents an impressive display which can be appreciated from several vantages. The collection covers a wide swath of history, and contains everything from primitive flintlocks up to sophisticated modern automatic weapons. Significant pieces include an original Colt Navy Revolver from the Civil War and a dagger from Nazi Germany.

By collecting and preserving replicas of the weapons worn by Buffalo Bill, Wyatt Earp, or George Custer, Wege's collection showcases the importance of these heroes in constructing the American identity we all share.

The collection can be seen on display in the GRPM’s Be Curious gallery on the second floor. Viewing of this collection is included with general admission. For more information please visit www.grpm.org.

Peter Melvin Wege Peter Melvin Wege (1920-2014) was a member of the Steelcase Board of Directors for 50 years, but he was best known as a philanthropist who made significant and lasting contributions to education and environmental causes in his West Michigan community and around the world. Wege's father, Peter Martin Wege, founded the Metal Office Furniture Company in Grand Rapids in 1912, which went on to become Steelcase, the largest office furniture manufacturer in the world. Wege joined Steelcase in 1946, working in a series of executive posts including sales, design and as an officer of the Board of Directors and the Steelcase Foundation Board. At his urging, Steelcase went public in 1998, and shortly afterwards in 2000, he resigned as the company's vice chairman to work full-time on his foundation.

Grand Rapids Public MuseumThe Grand Rapids Public Museum, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is located in downtown Grand Rapids, MI at 272 Pearl Street, NW. He will also head to the 2015 Great American Beer Festival in Denver as a guest of Bell’s and compete alongside a Bell’s brewer in the Pro-Am Competition (both prizes are new this year).

Judges were again impressed with the quality of the beers this year, said David Curtis, Bell’s General Store Manager and competition organizer.

“There was a lot of experimentation like in past years but overall, very solid beers,” he said.

Second place went to Teri Grossman for her Pale Ale brewed with mango and habanero. Third place went to Laurie Newman for her Belgian Dubbel brewed with oranges.

Also placing in the top six are (in order) Dawn Updike (hoppy Pale Ale), Lauren David (Cherry Beer) and Kevin Cole (Amber/Brown Ale).

This year’s runners up are:

A longtime favorite, the Alpine Tubing Park at Shanty Creek is moving to the resort’s Summit Village for the coming winter season, and the new setting changes more than its view.

Beginning in winter 2014/15, alpine tubing will be atop Summit Mountain behind the resort’s Lakeview Hotel where its majestic views of Lake Bellaire will be on display. The new location will also provide guests with easy access to the hotel’s conference center restrooms and the Lakeview Restaurant.

“Being close to indoor amenities will definitely be a benefit for many guests,” says Steve Kershner, Director of Snow Sports at the resort.

And for many winter guests of Shanty Creek Resorts, Alpine Tubing Park is a crowd favorite. While skiing and snowboarding are the major draws, alpine tubing is where a lot of childhood excitement is shared by both children and adults alike.

“Unlike skiing or snowboarding,” Kershner adds, “tubing requires no athleticism or technique. It is essentially sledding except here you don’t have to walk back up the hill!”

That’s because a new 275ft magic carpet at Summit Mountain will allow guests to ride back up. “It’s like the moving walkways at most major airports,” says Kershner. In the past, tubes were pulled back to the top with a handle tow. “The new magic carpet will be a big improvement.”

The new and improved Alpine Tubing Park is among a number of big changes planned for the coming winter season at Shanty Creek. To review all of the improvements, visit shantycreek.com/bigchanges for videos and a list of FAQs.

About Shanty Creek Resorts
Shanty Creek Resorts is a four-season destination resort and conference center in northern Michigan spanning 4,500 acres across three distinct villages: Summit, Schuss and Cedar River, each with lodging, dining, golf and downhill skiing and cross country trails. The Grand Haven/Spring Lake Holiday Inn’s Marketing Director, Kendra Higgins is facilitating a lakeshore bridal workshop November 15, 2014 from 11AM – 3PM under the name "Lovestruck Boutique." The workshop includes four full hours of wedding day inspiration from industry experts, heavy appetizers from Jack’s Waterfront Bistro, a Q&A panel of professional wedding planners, and one swag bag. Advance registration is required online, with limited spots available. "Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, and often times the bride can be pulled in many directions from her vision to family traditions. I want to offer more than just information to brides-to-be. I want them to walk away with new found knowledge, confidence in their decisions, and the ability to revel in the satisfaction of their big day!" noted Higgins.

When asked what brides can expect, Higgins replied, "Couples will rotate through each vendor to hear everything from the most common cake flavors and when to order, to what flowers are in season AND fit their budget! The Q&A panel of wedding planners will give you time to ask direct questions about their work flow, to details on some of the most extravagant weddings, giving you inspiration and confidence to continue your planning process. The atmosphere will be relaxed, encouraging conversation and the opportunity to converse with other brides, exchange tips, ideas and contacts."

The price point is affordable at $75 for two attendees and is a one-stop-shop for brides to consult with key wedding industries – not to mention the advice from wedding planners! The duo rate was put together because we feel the planning process is more fun with the love and support from your significant other, mother, or maid of honor!
