Hummingbird Expert to Speak at Binder Park Zoo

Binder Park Zoo and Brigham Audubon are welcoming special guest speaker Brenda Keith, hummingbird expert, on June 9th at 7:00 p.m. for a presentation on hummingbird banding and research.

Brenda’s career with the Kalamazoo Nature Center began in the mid-80s when she helped in the bird banding program as a volunteer two days per week. This expanded into a hired position as a bird bander and the responsible person for banding records to the Bird Banding Laboratory.

In 1990, Brenda and her husband Rich began a summer banding project on their 43 acre property near Vicksburg. It soon became clear that this property was a good site for both summer and fall banding and the Pitsfield Bird Banding Station was established as an extension of the Kalamazoo Nature Center banding program.

Brenda has also worked on non-banding related research projects such as the Michigan Breeding Bird Atlas I and II, winter feeder surveys, Christmas Bird Counts, and several census projects.

A short Brigham Audubon business meeting will start promptly at 7:00 pm, with the presentation beginning immediately afterwards at 7:15 pm. The program will take place in the Cross Administration Building (Zoo Office). The event is free to the public. For more information, please contact Binder Park Zoo: 269-979-1351.
